Low Season: How to Enjoy the French Riviera!

A Softer, More Peaceful French Riviera

When summer feels like a distant memory, the Côte d’Azur reveals a new side—calmer, more intimate. In Nice, winter days are bathed in light, with the blue of the sea contrasting beautifully against the colourful Italian-style facades of the coastal towns.

This is the perfect time to explore the region differently, taking the time to savour each moment!

Take a Stroll in Nice

In winter, Nice settles into a gentler rhythm. The Promenade des Anglais becomes a haven of tranquillity—we recommend enjoying a morning coffee on a terrace overlooking the sea at sunrise and unwinding with an apéritif at sunset.

Then, head towards the winding streets of the Old Town, where a newfound serenity can be felt in winter. Stroll between vibrant markets and charming art galleries.

For a cultural pause, visit the museums of the Palais Lascaris or the Charles Nègre Photography Museum.

Exploring the Hinterland

Just a few kilometres from the sea, take the road inland towards the Niçois countryside! To the west, perched on its rocky spur, Saint-Paul-de-Vence is perfect for a day trip. The programme? Meeting artists and local craftspeople!

Further east in the department, the villages of La Turbie and Èze offer breathtaking panoramas over the Mediterranean, enhanced by the crystal-clear winter light.

Head towards the Southern Alps, where nature lovers can escape along the snowy trails of the Mercantour National Park, in the Gordolasque Valley or towards Boréon.

A Boat Trip? A Swim?

Even if swimming isn’t your first thought, a sailing trip off the coast of Cap Ferrat or the Lérins Islands promises a timeless experience!

For the more daring, a dip in the sea remains an option! In Nice, some locals keep the tradition of winter bathing alive, embracing the invigorating benefits of the sea. This ritual is often followed by sunbathing—yes, on the French Riviera, you can still tan in winter!

Off-season, the French Riviera is just as enjoyable as in summer. Whether dining at a restaurant, exploring Provençal artisan markets, or wandering through towns and villages, the experience is yours to create…

Travelling off-season on the Côte d’Azur means rediscovering this iconic destination in a whole new light, far from the usual summer clichés.
