Spring is coming and it’s time to get thinking about wonderful places to visit. We have put together 3 walks for your stay on the Côte d’Azur. Take off along the Mediterranean trails and paths to discover idyllic landscapes.
Step one: A 2-hour walk exploring Mont Boron
Being your first walk in the Côte d’Azur at plage de la Réserve (located to the east of Port de Nice). Then take the road towards the Mont Boron Fort.
Head in the direction of Parc Forestier du Mont Boron with its 140 acres of forest! Follow the little blue arrows at your feet. You will come to a gate but not to worry, it’s open. Keep going and you will come across a path around the edge of the forest.
You will follow the creeks along the coastal path. You will wander past the overhanging houses and cliffs with breathtaking landscapes. Discover the many rare plant species dotted along the path (carob, oak…) Here awaits your first viewing point, from which you can catch a glimpse of the bay of Villefranche sur Mer and Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat. Continue on your walk, following the CAP de Nice trail.
Once you have arrived at an altitude of 180 metres you will find yourself facing the naval fort where a panoramic path around the building awaits you. You will have a stunning view of the whole town of Nice. When you have walked round it, head back down to the Port de Nice via the summit of Mont Boron.
Step 2: Explore the Arènes de Cimiez
You will have the opportunity to take a short break in the gardens of the Cimiez monastery where you can take in a panoramic view of the Baie des Anges in Nice. This garden is a source of wonder and reverie, particularly under a blue sky. You will also find an archaeological site nicknamed the “Sacred Wood”. As part of Nice’s history, this garden is listed as a site of major historical. .
Then, after your walk, time for a well-deserved meal. Enjoy picnicking on the specialities of Nice (pan bagnat, socca etc.) in the shade of the olive trees. The park has petanque courts where you can have fun playing a match.
In the afternoon, head off on an adventure to the Roman ruins in the archaeological museum in Cimiez, a listed historical monument. Immerse yourself in the world of Roman gladiators and learn about their daily life. Not to be missed once the museums have opened their doors again!
Around the park you will sharpen your observational skills, taking in exhibits dating from antiquity to the Middle Ages.
Finally, a little detour in the footsteps of Henri Matisse or Marc Chagall, to take in the painters’ work, from their first sketches right through to their masterpieces.
Step 3: Immersion on “Le train des Pignes”
Take a trip on this train “of wonders”. You can take in the mountains overlooking the sea, as well as the waterways and gorges. This legendary train has been meandering along the tracks from Nice to Dignes les Bains for 29 years. We recommend that you take the train along the full route to take in the magnificent views of the Côte d’Azur and its hinterland.
A peaceful, leisurely or mountainous walk in the Côte d’Azur will bring you satisfaction during your stay in these legendary locations.
